Given in thirds of a month (early / mid / late) for the northern hemisphere in a temperate climate; altitude and season shift them.

Fruit

Very juicy, fully melting, sweet and mildly tart, noble-aromatic and very palatable. Especially bruise-sensitive when ripe.

Growth

Medium vigour; the branching makes it very well suited to espalier training. Fruit hangs wind-fast on the tree.

Yield

Cropping starts early, from the 4th year, and later stays moderate and regular.

Notes

Very late winter dessert pear for warm, sheltered sites; not for wet or cold positions. The warmer, the better the fruit quality. Grown up to 400 m. Tree-ripe late Oct to early Nov, eating-ripe late Nov to Jan, keeps about 2 months in a natural store.

Care

Train on a south-wall espalier. Harvest and handle ripe fruit carefully due to high bruise-sensitivity.
