Description
Fruit
Fully melting, very juicy and sweet dessert pear with a muskmelon-like, pleasantly spiced flavour and low acidity; convincing even when hard-ripe.
Growth
Weak to medium-strong growth; the fruit hangs wind-firm until tree ripeness.
Yield
Early to bear, regular and very heavy; tends to form parthenocarpic fruit even without pollination.
Notes
One of the most valuable late-autumn dessert pears, listed in the NRW proposal list of old orchard varieties. For garden, espalier, hedge and commercial growing at favourable sites up to 350 m, no special heat requirement; risk of chlorosis on limey soils. Tree-ripe September/October, ready to eat October/November, keeps 1 to 2 months.
Care
Thin the crop to improve fruit quality. Watch for chlorosis on limey soils; leaf sunburn appears increasingly with climate change.
