Description
Fruit
Juicy to very juicy, flavour strongly dependent on site and weather, from delicately sour-sweet to bland and watery. Borderline between dessert and cooking pear. Fruit wind-firm.
Growth
Strong growth. Suited to garden, espalier and standard orchard.
Yield
Early start of bearing, then very high and regular; a mass cropper. Thinning can be worthwhile.
Notes
Widely adaptable on adequately moist, nutrient-rich soils, also at mountain sites above 350 m; no special heat needs, prefers marginal pear-growing areas. On humid sites prone to scab and leaf sunburn. Late picking for better quality. Tree-ripe late September to mid October, ready to eat October to November; keeps 6 weeks, from higher sites 2 months.
