Description
Fruit
Roundish, fairly small fruit, russet-red when fully ripe; soft, melting, juicy, wine-acidic and slightly tart, with a light muscat aroma and often red-streaked flesh.
Growth
Strong growth; a typical orchard variety.
Yield
Cropping starts early and is regular.
Notes
Only a dessert pear in good years, otherwise for preserving or hard-ripe juice. Very old variety (first mentioned 1588), now rare, on the NRW list of proposed old orchard varieties. No special warmth needs, tolerates drier soils; grows in mountain sites above 400 m. Pick mid September to early October, ready to use November, keeps about 2 months. Generally disease-resistant.

Undemanding orchard variety; thin the tall-trunk crown regularly, otherwise little care needed.
