Storage

Given in thirds of a month (early / mid / late) for the northern hemisphere in a temperate climate; altitude and season shift them.

Description

Fruit

Fine dessert apple of outstanding quality (rating 1-2). Sweet with restrained acidity, richly spiced with a muscatel note.

Growth

Triploid variety, vigorous and spreading. Crown broad and often drooping; scaffold branches obliquely upright with enough side wood, fruiting wood of medium length. Wind-firm.

Yield

Comes into bearing early, medium yield with a tendency to alternate bearing.

Notes

Old variety, recommended by the NRW orchard-protection committee as an orchard variety. For orchard, limited for the garden. Thrives better in cool locations and higher altitudes and on loose soils; overall a robust tree.

Care

Thin blossoms or fruit to counter alternate bearing; little maintenance pruning required.
