Description
Fruit
Rather small fruit with a high flavour rating (1-2). Fruity, aromatic with an orange-like note that only develops fully after storage; still sour at harvest in mid-October. One of the most vitamin-C-rich apple varieties.
Growth
Strong-growing tree.
Yield
Bears rather poorly compared with other varieties; considered a demanding variety.
Notes
Only suited to optimal sites for orchard and garden. Needs well-ventilated locations; heavy, loamy or waterlogged soils promote canker, dry sites cause small fruit or fruit drop, and north-facing slopes ripen poorly.
Care
Plant on a well-ventilated site that is neither too wet nor too dry to prevent scab, canker and fruit drop.
