Growing

Pinus contorta prefers full sun and tolerates a wide variety of soil conditions including peat bogs, sandy and gravelly soils. It requires moist but well-drained soil and moderate watering especially during the first year. Propagation is by seed sown in fall or spring after cold stratification. Seedlings are shallow-rooted and susceptible to drought and competition, so weed control and mulching are recommended.
