Storage

Given in thirds of a month (early / mid / late) for the northern hemisphere in a temperate climate; altitude and season shift them.

Description

Fruit

Aromatic autumn dessert apple (grade 2-), keeps only a few weeks; well suited to dried apple rings.

Growth

Strong, still moderately vigorous once bearing. Broad, flat crown with sparse branching and flat scaffold branches that tend to go bare.

Yield

Cropping starts relatively late and stays relatively light, with a tendency to biennial bearing. Strong pre-harvest fruit drop.

Notes

Clearly prone to scab, somewhat prone to canker and mildew. Only for well-ventilated sites and loose, not heavy or waterlogged soils. Conditionally suited to standard orchards.

Care

Prune to encourage better branching and a smaller crown to counter bareness. Pick promptly in several passes because of the strong drop; choose an airy site.
