Fruit

Dessert and culinary apple (rating 2). Sour at first, becoming more aromatic and sweeter after storage; tastes best when the skin has begun to wrinkle slightly.

Growth

Triploid variety, vigorous and strong-growing. Crown broad and often drooping, forms handsome crowns; scaffold branches obliquely upright with enough side wood, fruiting wood of medium length. Wind-firm.

Yield

Comes into bearing late and then bears in alternating years. Standard trees only after 8-9 years, smaller forms after 3-6 years.

Notes

Typical orchard variety for orchard and garden. Triploid, needs pollinators. Numerous mutants with differing ripening, keeping quality and scab susceptibility. Stores 5-6 months.

Care

Little maintenance pruning needed; thin blossoms or fruit to prevent alternate bearing.
