Growing

Basil prefers a sunny site with well-drained, nutrient-rich soil. The plant needs evenly moist soil but should not stand too wet. Sow in spring after the danger of frost, either directly outdoors or pre-grown indoors. Regularly pinching out the shoot tips promotes bushy growth and delays flowering. Basil is frost-sensitive and is usually grown as an annual.
