Growing

Napa cabbage prefers cool weather and is sensitive to transplant shock. For spring planting, sow seed in peat pots 6-7 weeks before the last frost. Plant out the seedlings after 4-5 weeks so they mature before warm weather. Spacing is 15-20 inches. Keep the soil nutrient-rich and moist. Apply extra nitrogen at half growth. Harvest as soon as the heads become firm. For autumn planting, sow seed directly 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep and thin to 15-20 inches.
