Description

Fruit

Slim, dark-brown, oily-glossy pods (15-22 cm) with dense seedy pulp. Full, rounded vanilla flavour and high vanillin content (typ. 1.5-2.5%).

Yield

No fixed Northern-Hemisphere season: flowering and harvest follow the tropical location. In Madagascar hand-pollination mostly Sep-Dec, green harvest Jun-Aug, followed by months of curing.

Notes

Not a true clonal cultivar but the dominant commercial/origin form of V. planifolia (~75-80% of the world market). Premium grades are often marketed as 'Gourmet' or 'Grand Cru' - these are quality tiers, not botanical varieties.
