Description
Fruit
Seedless barberry, the mainstay cultivar of commercial growing in Iran.
Growth
Shrubs reach 3 to 6 m and crop extremely heavily. Tolerates cold winters and grows above 1,500 m. Drought during fruit development, growth and ripening reduces the yield.
Care
Site: Tolerates cold winters and still grows above 1,500 m. Drought during fruit development and ripening noticeably reduces the crop โ a site with access to water is decisive. Care: In commercial growing, spacing is 2 x 3 m and propagation is by suckers. Harvesting means cutting off the fruiting shoots, after which the berries are dried.
