Fruit

Elliptical to cylindrical dark red fruit 10 to 12 mm long, in pendulous racemes 6 to 8 cm long. They persist on the shrub well into winter.

Growth

Upright shrub with slightly arching shoots, about 2 m tall. Leaves 6 to 9 cm long and 2.7 to 4 cm wide, finely bristly-toothed, bronze-red when young. Late autumn colour, at first yellow-orange, later copper to wine red. Bright yellow flowers in pendulous racemes from mid to late May.

Yield

Very heavy cropping.

Care

Site: Self-fertile — unlike most barberries it manages without a partner. Care: The fruit persists on the bush well into winter and can be picked gradually.
